Short Bio

Spacehopper is a UK-based live electronic dance music trio fusing raw rock energy with trance, acid techno, and dub into an electrifying stage experience. Known for their high-octane performances and genre-defying sound, they’ve captivated audiences across the UK festival circuit since 2000. Their music blends pumping beats, layered synths, psychedelic guitar riffs, and driving basslines into a hypnotic, euphoric, dancefloor-ready soundscape. Think Orbital meets Leftfield with a punk twist.
Their debut single, Sounds and Colours, rocketed to Number One on Beatport, propelling their rise. From underground venues to festival main stages, Spacehopper has torn through the UK scene, building a loyal following “The Bouncers” thanks to sets that hit hard and never ease up.
Their debut album Energy in Motion, set for release Summer 2026, is being recorded using traditional techniques and analogue signal flow to capture the human energy of the studio. Expect a sonic journey that channels the pulse of the dancefloor with the soul of live performance.

Extended Bio

Spacehopper is a UK-based live electronic dance music trio that fuses the raw power of rock with the hypnotic pulse of trance, acid-tinged techno, and the warmth of feel-good dub. Since their formation in 2000, they’ve carved out a unique space in the UK’s underground and festival scenes, delivering high-octane performances that blur the line between live band and rave experience.
At the heart of Spacehopper is a commitment to live energy. Their sound is built from the ground up using synthesizers, analogue gear, and live instrumentation — a swirling collision of pumping beats, layered synths, psychedelic guitar leads, and resonant, wobbling basslines. The result is a relentlessly euphoric, dancefloor-ready soundscape that’s as immersive as it is explosive. Think Orbital meets Leftfield with a punk twist.
Founded by producer and multi-instrumentalist Chris, Spacehopper began as a solo project rooted in graphical scores and machine-driven experimentation. The project quickly evolved into a live act, first with percussionist Paul, and later with the addition of Phil (now performing as Mena) on bass guitar in 2010. After several lineup shifts, Darren joined on bass in 2015, and Mena returned in 2018 as lead guitarist, bringing a new dimension of expression and identity to the band’s sound and stage presence.
Spacehopper’s breakthrough came in 2013 when they were discovered performing live at Bearded Theory Festival by Magick Eye Records. Their debut single Sounds and Colours hit Number One on the Beatport Charts, earning praise from fans and critics alike. It was featured in Record Collector Magazine and spotlighted on iTunes Germany. Follow-up releases like Trancendance (which reached Number 7 on the Beatport Trance Charts) and Pure Essence in 2023 cemented their reputation as innovators in the live electronic space.
Their live shows are the stuff of legend. Whether headlining festival stages at Equinox, Landed, or Bearded Theory, or tearing up underground venues, Spacehopper deliver sets that are immersive, high-impact, and impossible to stand still to. With a triple-guitar setup, live synths, and a deep understanding of dancefloor dynamics, they create a kinetic experience that’s both musically intricate and physically exhilarating. Followers, affectionately dubbed The Bouncers are drawn by the promise of transcendence through sound.
Now, after years of sonic evolution and relentless gigging, Spacehopper are preparing to release their debut full-length album, Energy in Motion, in Summer 2026. Recorded using traditional techniques and analogue signal flows, the album captures the raw, human energy of their studio sessions, a celebration of movement, emotion, and the electric charge of live performance.
Spacehopper isn’t just a band. It’s a movement. A celebration of sound, sweat, and shared experience. And with Energy in Motion on the horizon, they’re ready to take their sound to the next dimension.

‘I went to see Spacehopper, a band who I’ve got to know quite well over the last few years. Well, they’ve evolved yet again — starting out with their more dubby material, they pushed on into their acid trance stuff before absolutely smashing it with their new triple guitar setup. They finished the banging set, which had everyone at the Sunrise Stage dancing like crazy, by bringing on a vocalist who smashed out a flaming cover of I Feel Love. Unexpected, but absolute fire! I reckon they should be on the Crispy Disco next year.’

"Spacehopper, as always, were fantastic! Recently adding a third guitar to the lineup, these legends really offer something special, delivering trancey, ravey guitar-led dance music played by a live band that’s absolutely incredible to boogie to."

"Offering a very different approach to psychedelia, Friday was also graced with the presence of Spacehopper. Long known for mixing trance, dub, and live guitars, this trio created a rolling ocean of luscious delicious space rock on the Sunrise Stage. A perfect fit for this trippy little venue, the Equinox crowd loved their show, with many dancing like mad throughout the band’s entire set."
"on this day Landed really saved the best till last. Coming on slightly delayed at 3am, as a reward for all the dedicated party people, were the amazing Spacehopper. Spacehopper are a veteran festival band that combine live instruments with a DJ to create a unique live sound. The trance-like pulsing music kept the crowd moving late into the night, with transcendence being a particular smash hit."
